Helsi Ice Plunge

1. Start at a sensible temperature.

Begin at about 15°C and gradually lower the temperature as you get used to the experience of the cold over time and repeated plunges.

2. Set an initial duration.

Start with 30 seconds to 2 minutes, then slowly increase your time to between 3 and 10 minutes, or even longer!

3. Familiarise yourself with breathing techniques.

Mastering effective breathing techniques can significantly enhance your cold plunge experience - they can help you stay calm, reduce the shock response, and make cold water immersion more manageable. These techniques are helpful not only for cold immersion but also for many other aspects of life.

Reduced inflammation: Cold water immersion can help decrease inflammation in muscles and joints, aiding faster recovery from exercise or injury.

Improved circulation: Cold water causes blood vessels to constrict, which can improve circulation and promote overall cardiovascular health.

Enhanced recovery: Cold water therapy can accelerate muscle recovery by reducing muscle soreness and fatigue.

Increased mood and mental alertness: Norepinephrine, a hormone and neurotransmitter, is crucial in promoting wakefulness, alertness, and memory function. The shock of cold water can stimulate the nervous system, leading to increased alertness and mental clarity. With regular cold exposure, norepinephrine levels can increase by 200-300%, contributing to enhanced cognitive function and pain management. Furthermore, this exposure boosts dopamine by 250%, offering a natural surge of feel-good sensations.

Boosted immune system: Regular cold water therapy may strengthen the immune system by increasing the production of white blood cells.

The Helsi Ice Plunge will start to create ice when the temperature reaches 0 degrees. We have engineered our Ice Plunge to create the perfect quantity, size, and consistency of ice.

The Helsi Ice Plunge is made from Canadian Cedar. The wood is treated to withstand weather conditions and contact with water. The Ice Plunge is weather resistant, not weatherproof. It can be positioned outside; however, we recommend keeping it sheltered and protected from direct weather exposure (sun, wind, rain, and snow), which will accelerate the natural aging process of the timber and cause a distinct patina of the wood, resulting in uneven colour changes.

To maintain the condition of the timber finish, we recommend sanding and coating with marine-grade polyurethane once per year. We would also recommend purchasing an optional external cover through the Helsi website.

The Helsi Ice Plunge comes with a complimentary insulated tub Lid and a cedar Step.

For outdoor use, we highly recommend purchasing the external cover, which will be available to purchase in 2025.

Your Helsi Ice Plunge can be warmed up to 42°C. Simply set the desired temperature to 42°C or to a value you are comfortable with.

The maximum power of the Helsi Ice Plunge is approximately 1600W. When running at full power (e.g., cooling down from 20°C to 0°C), the unit consumes around 0.9 kWh per hour. Please note that this level of consumption occurs only during intense cooling or heating periods. Once the desired temperature is reached, the unit will not run continuously and will therefore not draw maximum power.

The following figures are for reference only, as different factors, such as ambient temperature, can affect the outcomes:

• Total energy consumption to cool water from 20°C to 0°C: 14.3 kWh
• Time to cool water from 20°C to 0°C: ~11 hours
• Total energy consumption to keep water at 0°C for ice creation over 8 hours: 7.4 kWh
• Total energy consumption to heat water from 0°C to 42°C: 14.7 kWh
• Time to heat water from 0°C to 42°C: ~16 hours
• Total energy consumption to cool water from 42°C to 0°C: 15.8 kWh
• Time to cool water from 42°C to 0°C: ~18 hours

As an example, if you fill the Ice Plunge with fresh water at around 20°C and the cost is 30 cents per kWh, it will cost approximately 14.3 kWh × 30 c/kWh = $4.29 for cooling it to 0ºC. Keep in mind, as mentioned earlier, that the unit will consume much less energy once the target temperature is reached.

Your Helsi® IcePlunge comes with a 2 Year Limited Warranty. In the rare event that you might have an issue with your Ice Plunge, parts are covered for 24 months, while labour is offered complimentary for your first 12 months of ownership.
